The Great Injustice and The Merry Maid

'The Great Injustice' and 'The Merry Maid' for me are two short stories worth read nowadays. Abortion in our modern world is becoming worst day by day and pre-marital sex can no longer be controlled. In both stories, we may think in a different perspectives about both issue; abortion and pre-marital sex.
In 'The Great Injustice' Ah Nya was pregnant. Steve refuses to take responsibility and the society puts too much pressure on her. Even her father, felt ashamed by the incident, told her to abort the baby. Such situation is what we find common nowadays. We keep blaming people for abortion but we ourselves forgot that we are a part of the abortion. We curse people with unwanted child, not giving them chance to raise the baby. We put them to the very corner until they cannot move while the baby is still inside. Then, when they abort the baby, we blame them for being a killer. If we give support and aid to them, we can actually save the baby from abortion.
In 'The Merry Maid', Lakshmi was forced to give her child to other people due to her conditions. Love only cannot keep the baby breathing. Lakshmi is more fortunate as she can still see her daughter growing up. When society does not help such parents, giving the baby to other people seems rational. The baby can survive and might have a better future.
In conclusion, society is actually playing a big role in both issues. If we handle both issues rationally and wisely, we can actually save lives and provide a better environment for unmarried couple.
